Seeding Community

A dear friend sent me a story the other day. Here is how it went:

There was a farmer who grew excellent, quality corn. Every year he won the award for the best grown corn. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors.

“How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?” the reporter asked.

Partnership Through the Summer

After a stressful several months and a lot of time in our homes, many of us have cabin fever. At the same time, many are still cautious about nonessential travel right now, especially for those who may be at higher risk of complications related to Covid-19. However, if you are one of those people just itching to head out on summer vacation, you are not alone.

As the events of the last week have unfolded, we are at a loss for the perfect words to meet this human rights tragedy. We also know that we cannot be silent.

I am thankful that so many of you, our Farmers To You families, have reached out to share how you are faring during uncertain times.  You have shared your ups and downs, but one thing is clear — your home cooked, family meals are the silver lining of this pandemic. When our lives get busy again, you say you will be reluctant to give up the feeling of warmth and security from the time spent at the dinner table.

Food for Thought and Thoughtful Choices

In my more than 35 years in the farming and food business, I have never seen the changes in our food system at the pace and scale we are witnessing in recent weeks. It truly is extraordinary.
