These tiny orange berries are very high in anti-oxidants and are tart and citrus-like, with notes of tropical fruits and apricot. Also known as sea buckthorn, sandthorn, sallowthorn or Siberian pineapple, these super little berries are vitamin-rich and also contain several omega oils. Seaberries can be a little too tangy for some, so are commonly made into jams, baked, added to smoothies or juiced, where their high protein content can make the juice a little cloudy.
Sandra from Perfect Circle explained to us that these little guys are notoriously hard to pick and process, and that is why they are a little more expensive than blueberries.
Store in the freezer until ready to use.
