This exceptional, delectable butter is made from sweet cream and is cultured for 48 hours, creating a delicious, creamy, slightly tangy flavor. Cultured butter is tangier and richer than your everyday stick butter, with a taste reminiscent of cheese. That’s because cultured butter and cheese share a critical first step – the addition of beneficial live bacteria (the ‘culture’ in cultured butter)
This is the butter to use on that special baked item or in cooking that special recipe. You will immediately notice the wonderful smell and texture as it melts or when you are cutting it into that pie crust or sweet dough.
Store in the refrigerator. For immediate use, leave on the counter so that it spreads easily. Keep refrigerated and use by the best by date on the package, or freeze for later use.
Ploughgate Creamery has been crafting small-batch, cultured butter of the finest quality in Vermont since 2014.
My palate clearly isn't as rarefied as some other reviewers' since I'm not sure I taste the difference between fancy butter and Costco or Trader Joe's organic butter, but I buy this all the time, and I do think it is lovely. I am motivated primarily by supporting regional agriculture and "local" farmers to keep our eco-system healthy. My husband is an immigrant from Europe, and most of his friends prefer unsalted butter. This hits the spot and is what I serve to his friends and family. I buy one block of butter from FTY each week, usually alternating salted and unsalted. I do also get commercial butter and always keep some extra on hand, but I bake often. This works beautifully in every recipe and is what I use first.
Simply Fantastic!!! My Favorite butter!
Excellent butter. I never refrigerate it and keep it in a butter keeper on the countertop. Fresh taste every morning and lasts more than a week unrefrigerated no problem. Fantastic product.
Delicious rich taste.
I almost wish I had never tried it because now no other butter tastes as good as this!
This butter hits the spot. It's a very clean butter taste that I would use for bread, some may find it a little salty but it's perfect for me. I'd use it for baking too if that was in my budget. Let me clarify a little bit more on the clean butter taste though. Some butters that are cultured have so much flavor that the butter almost taste like they cheese. This is not one of those, it taste very similar with a similar fat content to a Land O'Lakes butter. I mention that so that some folks who are expecting a higher fat butter like Kerrygold or Plugra will not be surprised.
I am freaking out this butter is basically heaven. Just tried my first bite today, slathered on your yummy Red Hen pumpernickel. I felt like I just woke up at a Vermont B&B and got to eat fresh local real food I could never have at home. But I am at home. It was truly a wholesome goodness moment. Thanks for bringing Vermont to us!
