Maple Rye Brownies

Rye flour is on sale this week, so it's a great time to experiment and try it in baked goods. Its nutty depth pairs particularly well with chocolate. This is a rich, slightly salty brownie, perfect for topping with ice cream.

Ingredients:

6 T butter, melted and cooled
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup rye flour
1/2 t salt
1/2 t baking powder
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Heaping 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 and butter an 8" x 8" baking pan.

In a large bowl, hisk together the eggs, vanilla and maple syrup.

Slowly whisk in the melted butter, then add the cocoa powder.

When the cocoa powder has been completely incorporated, whisk in the rest of the ingredients.

Fold in the nuts and chocolate chips, and then pour into your prepared pan.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the middle feels set. Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before slicing.
