Cider Syrup Glazed Short Ribs

Cider syrup is the magic ingredient here, a shortcut to incredible flavor.


3 lbs beef short ribs
1/2 cup flour
1/2 t salt
1/2 t pepper or red chili flakes
1/2 cup cider syrup
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup broth, or 1T miso mixed with 1/2 cup water
2T oil

Allow the ribs to come to room temperature, about 30 minutes.

In a large shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

Heat a dutch oven over medium high heat.

In a 2 cup measuring cup or large bowl, mix together the cider syrup, apple cider vinegar and broth.

Add oil to your warmed dutch oven.

Dredge the ribs in the flour mix, then sear on all sides in the pan (about 1 minute per side should do it).

Once all of the ribs are in the pot and seared, pour over the liquid mixture.

Cover and then place pan in the oven and cook for 2.5-3 hours, until the meat is falling off the bone.

Serve with mashed potatoes, polenta or your favorite grain.
