The brightest of all the European Pears, the Sunrise Pear is a bright yellow blushed with a red hue on the sunward side of the fruit. Little to no green present upon ripening, the pear is best harvested early and left to ripen off the branch. The Sunrise Pear is extremely sweet but not terribly juicy.
If these pears are firm when you receive them, simply put them in a paper bag and let them sit at room temperature for a day or two to fully ripen. If you don't want them all to ripen at once, leave some in the refrigerator and pull them out a few days before you plan to enjoy them.
To ripen, store in a paper bag at room temperature. Once ripe, store at room temperature not in a paper bag.
We have partnered with four orchards in south central Pennsylvania that produce some of the regions best stone fruits including white, yellow and doughnut peaches, nectarines, yellow and purple plums and sweet and sour cherries. All of these orchards are family owned and some are so small they don't even have a website. We get deliveries from one or all of them weekly depending on availability. All of the fruits are hand picked and hand crated and chosen based on ripeness and size. All of the orchards use Integrated Pest management (IPM) Practices which is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices. IPM is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.
