For those who love dark meat, these Misty Knoll legs are a succulent treat. Chicken Leg Quarters are all dark meat and consist of about a quarter of the meat on a chicken-- the drumstick, thigh and part of the back.
You can separate the drumstick from the thigh using a sharp chef's knife. See a simple tutorial here.
Enjoy within 5 days or freeze for later use.
Keep refrigerated at below 40 degrees for up to a week. Freeze if your plans change and you will not be cooking it within the week. To thaw meat that has been frozen, place in a sealed bag in a bowl of cool water. Allow at least a day to thaw your poultry prior to cooking. Depending on the size and cut thawing times may vary.
Juicy, but not watery, tasty but not overpowering, this family farm has poultry raising and processing down to an art. The chickens are free to roam throughout spacious, specially designed chicken houses, with access to abundant feed, water and fresh air. As a result of this clean, stress-free environment, the birds are healthier and better tasting. These chickens are fed whole grains with no animal by products and are not treated with any antibiotics or added hormones.
We order these every week--they are a staple in our house. We could not believe how much better they are than store-bought chicken. Happy, healthy chicken just tastes better. Guests rave about the flavor. We use one of several Pensky's salt-free rubs (add the salt we want) and grill. Also great roasted in the oven placed over cut up root vegetables tossed with OOO and S/P, with paprika on the chicken. Easy and yummy!
This chicken is like no other! It's so tasty and juicy. Once you eat a Misty Knoll chicken you can never go back! Same for their turkey.
There's no doubt that the diet and environment makes a difference, and these are tasty. The next level of flavor would be chickens that are truly pasture raised, but, if you only had standard store bought chickens, you'll be surprised as to just how much more flavorful this chicken is.
You'll never want to eat store bought chicken again after eating this! So juicy and delicious!
Really love these leg quarters and will continue to order them. I was surprised by how substantial the pieces are and every time I've cooked them the meat has been flavorful and juicy. My guests couldn't stop raving about them when I used them in this recipe from the NY Times, "Coriander-seed chicken with caramelized Brussels sprouts: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018590-coriander-seed-chicken-with-caramelized-brussels-sprouts
This chicken is very flavorful and tender, and really tastes like chicken. Great roasted with a little salt and pepper.
