Believed to be the offspring of Golden Reinette and Grimes Golden, this mellow, sweet apple has a pale-yellow skin with slight red blushing to it. This apple was historically dried for long- term use in the winter, making it a valuable asset in the 1900s. Crisp, coarse-grained, light yellow flesh, with flavor that is sweet and balanced. Great for fresh eating, baking, cider and drying.
Fresh apples are best stored in their paper bag in the refrigerator.
Bill and Andrea at Champlain Orchards are committed to ecological practices and are Eco-Apple certified. Due to the challenges of our Northeast climate, organic certification of apples is incredibly difficult. Their apples are never sprayed; only in the flowering stage are the trees treated using Integrated Pest Management to cut down on the risk of scab. No chemical pesticides are used on the orchards.
