Macouns (rhymes with town) are extra sweet and aromatic, with a juicy and tender snow-white flesh. Excellent for eating or making sauce.
These fresh apples are best stored in a paper bag in the refrigerator.
Bill and Andrea at Champlain Orchards are committed to ecological practices and are Eco-Apple certified. Due to the challenges of our Northeast climate, organic certification of apples is incredibly difficult. Their apples are never sprayed; only in the flowering stage are the trees treated using Integrated Pest Management to cut down on the risk of scab. No chemical pesticides are used on the orchards.
I don't even know what to say about these Macouns; they are SO sweet and good. Possibly, the best apples EVER.
We discovered Macoun apples this season while apple-picking, and they're now one of my favorite apples ever (alongside Fuji and Honeycrisps) - crisp, juicy, and wonderful for eating. Perhaps because they're so juicy, I didn't think they held up *quite* as well as other varieties when I tried roasting them in the oven - I was surprised how much water bubbled up on the pans -- but once blended, they made a pretty delicious applesauce anyway.
As good as ever! These are always my favorites.
