In 2004, Stina Kutzer's husband gave her a beautiful Jersey calf for her birthday. Babette, and Babette's babies, were the beginning of Gammelgarden Creamery.
In the fall of 2010, Gammelgarden began making skyr, bringing it and other dairy products to local farmers markets, forming bonds with other local farmers that are still cherished today.
Gammelgården is committed to the health and comfort of every cow who gives milk. They believe that’s what makes their products uniquely delicious. Commitment to quality begins with farming practices and continues all the way to the market. All Gammelgarden products are handmade, hand-packaged and personally delivered by the family. Their special recipe for cooking and small-batch pasteurization preserves both the freshness and the nutrient content of skyr.
As demand for skyr has outgrown their small Jersey herd, they now use high-quality milk from other local farms, maintaining product quality while supporting local dairy farmers - all cows are not treated with antibiotics or rBGH.
Gammelgarden use pure VT Maple Syrup, Brattleboro-produced Sidehill Jam, and Blake Hill Preserves in Windsor, VT.
