On farmland left vacant for 4 years, Green River Regenerative Farm brings new life, new organic standards, and a new commitment to soil health and regenerative practices, community and agricultural education. Green River Regenerative Farm seeks to advance the soil health and regenerative agriculture movement by establishing a working farm and model; growing - and teaching others to grow - better food, diverse and resilient ecosystems, and healthier communities. The hope is create a premier learning center for agricultural professionals, policy makers, and local residents—while also producing pasture-raised, nutrient-dense food for the surrounding communities.

The 235-acre farm, formerly known as Modern Dairy, the Langer Farm, and Green River Farms, is on land which was used in part for farming and as hunting grounds by the Mohican people and was later settled by former British soldiers garrisoned at Fort Massachusetts and Fort West Hoosac. The farm lies in the western shadow of Mount Greylock, highest point in the state of Massachusetts, and has the Green River running through it on its way north to the Hoosick River, which eventually meets the Hudson River.

The history of agriculture in this area, the Berkshires of Massachusetts, is largely rooted in wool and dairy production along with leather, timber, spinning, and cheese. The value-added products were transported west to the Hudson River, only 30 miles away, providing a conduit to the major markets of Albany and the upper Hudson Valley.

The farmers of Green River Regenerative believe in caring for the land that cares for us. Through regenerative farming practices, they are committed to improving soil health and creating a farm that shows the power of growing food the right way — for our community, our planet, and future generations.
