WOWZA! Maybe "100 carrots on a 5 point scale"! DEFINITELY WORTH THE PRICE. In fact, fohgeddabout the price. This the kind of chocolate bar you'd get in an expensive chocolate store in Vienna, Austria and count the price of the trip worth just the one candy bar. THANKS. I am allergic to soy, so there are very few chocolate bars I can eat as 99% of them contain soy lecithin, but this one does NOT. THANKS AGAIN!

Well, 5 Carrots is really not enough. The distinction "carrots" doesn't even do these justice.
Here's the thing - I have had a number of different Nutty Steph's concoctions. Some were very good, some just okay. All clearly using quality ingredients, but not always coalescing into extraordinary in my opinion. And then there's the prices, which tend to be on the high side, and I say that because I have yet to be utterly thrilled with anything I have had thus far.
And then these come along. And my wife and I were absolutely FLOORED. I have given 5 Carrots to many things on this site. I think I have given out one 2 Carrot review. I'm pretty honest. This is the first item that I'd give MORE than 5 Carrots.
Trader Joe's puts out something similar to this. It's blocks of solid crunchy toffee surround by dark chocolate and dipped in small grated pistachios. Really good, for sure, and less expensive than this.
However, the integration of maple, toffee, great dark chocolate, and WHOLE pistachios makes this thing great. But the way she has integrated the maple and toffee into the chocolate (as well as the quality of the ingredients) takes this concoction into another stratosphere. There's no doubt that these are pricey. But this candy is so brilliant that it's actually worth it.
I have talked about restaurants with others regarding the price of the experience. I have had $25/plate meals that were not worth spending that money on. I have had $45/plate meals that were so full of surprising flavors, so artfully presented with such care, and the service so extraordinary, that I felt the expense was well worth it. Not something I can do on a regular basis. These chocolates were akin to the latter. I have no issue with the cost because they provide such an incredible payoff.
I can't afford these regularly. I do have restaurants I know that can provide a great, tasty meal for a reasonable cost. Turner's Fisheries does both a fresh shrimp scampi and a linguini with clam sauce that are fantastic for $15. We sit at the counter, having them with a glass of Sancerre (costs as much as the shrimp scampi!) and we're happy. In any event, I bought these chocolates without the benefit of having sampled them, but they looked great, I love the combination in general, having had the aforementioned ones from Trader Joe's, and I needed something for my valentine (my wife). They were sitting on the counter at my Farmer's To You pickup site (They often have a number of things you can add to your pickup on a spontaneous basis). Again, the Trader Joe's ones are perfectly fine. But these are in a whole other place and taste- and texture-wise.
By the way, Nutty Steph's has changed her business name to Rabble-Rouser chocolates. It's on her website. And at her store, according to her website, she was offering these in a heart-shaped box.
If you THINK you might like this, treat yourself and those around you.

This is such a decadent treat! I love the mix of maple candy, chocolate and pistachio. I barely wanted to share it with my family:)
But I am getting some for mother’s day! That’s right! Me! Me! Me!

Excellent flavor combination, and clearly good ingredients went into this product but unfortunately the price is too high to make it more than a once in a while treat. I wonder if the price could be lowered if it used crushed pistachios instead of whole, or thinner and smaller pieces of buttercrunch. Even as a gift, I feel like the presentation needs some thought at this price point.

We took this toffee to Thanksgiving dinner. It got raves and disappeared quickly. We mourned its loss like children. It was fantastic. I have to say that between the Bernie Bar, Magic Chunks, and these amazing chocolate-coated, pistachio-topped candies, Nutty Steph deserves the highest homage as a candy baker. (And no, I don't know her.)
For me, the price of the toffee makes it a holiday or birthday treat, alas.
