A medium-size apple, the Golden Russet's skin varies from grey-green to a golden bronze, with a russet color near the stem. The fine-grained, yellowish flesh is crisp with an exceptionally sugary juice, with hints of berries, honey and ginger.
Store apple in thier paper bag in the refrigerator.
Bill and Andrea at Champlain Orchards are committed to ecological practices and are Eco-Apple certified. Due to the challenges of our Northeast climate, organic certification of apples is incredibly difficult. Their apples are never sprayed; only in the flowering stage are the trees treated using Integrated Pest Management to cut down on the risk of scab. No chemical pesticides are used on the orchards.
I have a lot of favorite apples from FTY, but this is my new favorite. So crisp, w a terrific tang but plenty of juicy sweetness. I haven't cooked w it yet but imagine that it would behave much like a Granny Smith.
tangy, somewhat like an asian pear, and fresh and crisp. I couldn't belive this was not fresh off the tree. Delightful...took me straight back to the lovely Champlain orchards.
Really a wonderful apple: both sweet and tart with a complex flavor. Since it's a dense-fleshed apple I find it much more satisfying to slice off thin sections with a knife instead of biting into it.
