Back in the day, it was easier for us to personally know our grocers and food providers. I was lucky enough to grow up in a family steeped in food knowledge. My fraternal grandfather was a produce merchant at the Faneuil Hall Marketplace for 60 years. On the other hand, my maternal grandfather would always take me shopping at Blatzos’ Market. It was here that I would receive a lecture from Mr. Blatzos personally each week about how to tell if the fruit was fresh and well grown. The pay off at the end of listening to him were the samples of everything, a fair trade off.

I think we can all agree that these past eight months have been a challenge to us all. On a multitude of levels, the pandemic has greatly affected our lives. While it is easy to get caught up in the trials that we have experienced, this week I would like to focus on the story of a resilient family farm and the positive influence of your partnership with Farmers To You during these trying times.

As I peered into my refrigerator the other day attempting to determine what to cook up for dinner, I found an abundance of vegetables all on their last few days of freshness. While every vegetable has its own peak ripeness and storage length, it seemed that mine had synched up. The cabbage, carrots, broccoli, corn, celery, and the various herbs were shouting, “please eat me soon!”
