Anna Hammond witnessed first hand the amount of food going to waste every day while she was building a healthy eating program for families living in public housing through her job as executive director of the Sylvia Center, a Bronx-based nonprofit. She founded Matriark with the goal of cutting down food waste, and lessening the environmental, social and economic impacts of throwing it all away
Matriark upcycles farm surplus and fresh-cut remnants into delicious, healthy products for food service, retail, and emergency food. They divert food loss from making a negative impact on the environment and supporting American farmers with a new market for their imperfect vegetables - creating greater access to the healthy food we all need.
Matriark is on a mission to make nature-positive sourcing commonplace.
