In 1987, in the corner of an old cookie factory in Somerville, MA, Chang Shing Tofu was founded, with the mission to bring a true taste of home to their neighbors. A recently immigrated husband-and-wife team hand crafted tofu and delivered it directly to local restaurants, quickly becoming a staple in the community. It is only recently that Chang Shing have begun selling direct to consumers, having previously worked only with Asian food distributors or restaurants.
Even as the company has grown, their values remain unchanged: supporting nonprofits, Buddhist temples, and making fresh, wholesome tofu accessible to all. For over 35 years, Chang Shing has grown entirely through word of mouth—proof that quality and tradition speak for themselves. They continue to make small-batch, wholesome tofu the traditional way: kettle-cooked, cloth-bound, and preservative-free.
