John Ng is the son of Norman Ng, an immigrant from Hong Kong who bought a scrapyard in Brooklyn in the 1980s and caught the rising tide of industrial recycling, building his business into the multinational Fortune Group. John's entrepreneurial spirit led him to an interest in aquaculture and in 2014 he bought 120 acres and a defunct facility in Hudson, NY.

Hudson Valley Fish Farm, Inc. is now the largest land-based commercial-scale steelhead farm in North America. Using recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) technology, the facility not only circumvents the many environmental problems of water-based fish farms but filters and repurposes waste, providing nutrients for Ng’s other crop: hemp.

The environment in which the fish live is tightly controlled, creating perfect conditions for healthy and happy growth, and therefore assures customers of the best quality possible. Fish live, grow, and are processed on site - this means a much smaller and efficient supply chain than most of the seafood found in grocery stores. Their fish are 100% traceable from egg to plate, with a fraction of the carbon emissions compared to imported seafood.

This self contained system means the steelhead trout are free of the mercury and microplastics that are now accumulating in open seas. These steelhead enjoy Best Aquaculture Practices-certified feed that is free of GMOs, feather meal, corn or soy, and are rated "Best Choice" nationwide by the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch.
