Organic Mad River Grain Bread

1 lb loaf
$9.69

A wonderful combination of grains and seeds.

Ingredients
Unbleached wheat flour*, whole wheat flour*, sunflower seeds*, steel-cut oats*, flax seed meal*, brown flax seeds*, VT-grown heirloom cornmeal*, whole rye chops*, whole sesame seeds*, golden flax seeds*, water, culture, salt. *Certified organic
Storage Tips

This bread comes in a paper bag to preserve the crust. After cutting, place slice side down on a cutting board, uncovered, and it will stay fresh for days. If not sliced for several days, just run under cool water and heat in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.

Red Hen Baking Co., Middlesex, VT

This bread has more ingredients by far than anything else Red Hen makes, resulting in a rich array of textures and flavors. The seeds and course grains are soaked for improved digestibility, nutrition and enhanced flavor. The loaf is also long-fermented and naturally leavened. One try will have you hooked.

I'm a bread person and this is one of my absolute favorites. Red Hen Bakery is also one of my favorite bakeries. We live in Massachusetts so I'm thrilled we can order this bread weekly. My local bakery is Nashoba Brook and I can get Iggy's bread easily. These are amazing bakeries so the comparison is extremely high.

Might have found a new favorite bread. It has great flavor, great multiple textures, and great chew. The only slight downside is that it came wrapped in plastic, which, I'm guessing was for safety due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. (Plastic tends to steam the outside of the bread). No matter, this is fantastic. I'm so glad I have found it. The bakers at Red Hen continue to show their creativity and great execution.

So rich and delicious! A must try for all bread lovers. Wonderful toasted or not! I sliced it, then layered goat cheese, basil leaves, tomato slices, a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper. Such a yummy treat!

The crust is substantial and will give you a good bit of chew to get through it. There's not a lot of rise as you would expect from a whole wheat bread and the nutty earthy flavor is pronounced. I mention that because you're going to taste this bread with whatever you're having. So butter and jam with this toast means you're going to taste the bread, and then the butter and jam. The bread also keeps like a rock star, easily can go the whole week.

I rate it four stars because it's a little course, and I had one batch that was overcooked.

I am completely addicted to this bread. I have it with sliced tomato for breakfast and with my sandwiches at lunch. We used to by a multi-grain sandwich bread, but I've given it up in favor of this bread.

Loaf arrived Thursday. Last slice eaten with Sunday lunch. Tastes as good 4 days after the day it arrived .. we keep in double bagged on the counter between sessions. We keep Iggy's 7 grain bread sliced in the freezer for use AFTER we have eaten this Mad River Grain!

This bread is really delicious. The photo doesn't do it justice. It's grainy and chewy and delicious in the morning with a bit of strawberry jam.

This is a very satisfying whole grain bread with a nice nutty edge to it from the seeds. It's just chewy enough and very yummy.
