Shizuka is an apple with identical parentage of Crispin, but this apple is slightly sweeter. Just like a Crispin green apple that is a favorite among Granny Smith fans. It has a refreshing tart /sweet flavor, and keeps very well.
Store in the refrigerator.
I just got a bag. For me, they are pretty bland. There isn't a strong flavor. For what flavor their is, it's closer to sweet along the lines of Golden Delicious rather than the crisp, tart flavor of a Granny Smith. These, at this time anyway in mid-August of 2020, aren't bad, but they're not great.
Bill and Andrea at Champlain Orchards are committed to ecological practices and are Eco-Apple certified. Due to the challenges of our Northeast climate, organic certification of apples is incredibly difficult. Their apples are never sprayed; only in the flowering stage are the trees treated using Integrated Pest Management to cut down on the risk of scab. No chemical pesticides are used on the orchards.
