Superheroes in the Kitchen

Like most of us, you likely don’t have super-human strength and you probably can’t fly. Perhaps though it might be the case that you long to be like Superman and “faster than a speeding bullet…able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.” (The Adventures of Superman)

Ah, but little do you know, there are real life superheroes. These are regular people who choose to make a difference in the lives of others. Ordinary people who are doing good, without a lot of fanfare, in the lives of their families, friends and in their communities.

If cooking or baking for others is something you enjoy, let’s agree that it is your superhero power. Some even say that an apron is a cape worn backwards in the kitchen.

It becomes a backwards cape when you wear it as you’re flying through the kitchen making something for others providing them with sustenance and happiness. When you cook for others, you’re helping encourage trust and belonging while also expressing love and giving the gift of comfort.

We wanted to let you know that over the next few months you can buy your loved ones or friends their own backwards superhero cape – or apron. Farmers To You is selling aprons, made from econscious cotton, and recycled polyester blend. When you purchase an apron $10 will go to Just Basics as a donation.

Just Basics has several superheroes, also called volunteers, who help meet the basic food needs of individuals and families in the greater Montpelier, Vermont area. We are proud to support this non-profit that is on the front lines of fighting food insecurity through programs like the Montpelier Food Pantry and a Home Delivery Program (Meals on Wheels).

So, as you make your next delicious meal for your family and/or neighbors, and perhaps purchase an apron, you have helped another person, in some small way.

The good news is that while you are not Superman, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man or Black Widow, you can find some time to do your good deed and then take part in the meal.

We would be remiss if we didn’t also say we appreciate your other superhero gift: having a positive impact on our food system. Thank you for being a Farmers To You partner family and for supporting small scale farmers and producers.

Warmly,

Greg
