It is made from whole soybeans that are inoculated with natural spores from rice. The soybeans are then incubated for about 24 hours, and the result is tempeh. Because of this natural fermentation process, tempeh is one of the best sources of digestible vegetable protein, carbohydrate, and fat. In addition, it contains B vitamins, zinc, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, and fiber.
The Welters family run Rhapsody Natural Foods and make their tempeh in small batches in Cabot, using soybeans grown right over the border in Quebec, Canada, and certified organic by Ecocert Canada.

Such a good value for the best tempeh I've tried! Cut them into strips and pan fry it with a little soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, & smoked paprika and you'll have a quick and delicious veggie bacon.

This tempe is the best! Great texture, and flavor, (not bitter and slimy like many others I have tried.) lends itself nicely to all kinds of international spices. I like to fry it in olive oil till browned and toss it onto salad instead of chicken, also great as a side or main protein for breakfast.

I retract my previous review. Now that I'm a little more educated on preparing Tempeh the proper way, aka steaming/sauteing it, I'd say this has a rich clean flavor. It'll be my go to tempeh from now on.

Having tried all the various brands at Whole Foods and being former regular patrons of the Wee Dragon Bowl at Angelica's Kitchen in nyc, I must say that Rhapsody's Tempeh is one of the best we've had - wonderful "meatiness" without the musty aftertaste typical in most brands. We love it in our Reubens (along with the Sweet Pickle Relish also from FTY that we use for the dressing).

This has a distinct fermented soy aroma and flavor. Might be right up your alley but it was too strong for my preference. I'll go seitan for my veggie protein.

i have been a vegan for almost 10 years and i am STILL learning to love tempeh. rhapsody tempeh, however, makes it SO. EASY. this is literally, hands down, the very best tempeh i have ever eaten.

This is AMAZING! I tried some simply sauteed in olive oil and it tasted fantastic. Made spicy rubens with some (cooked with the brine of Claire's Country Garden Garlic pickles) and have grand plans of "chicken" salad with future orders.
