Storage Tips

Store apples in their bag in the refrigerator.

Champlain Orchards, Shoreham, VT

What makes Champlain Orchards apples taste so fresh? Science, of course! Apples are picked and then stored in special controlled-atmosphere vaults (Champlain Orchards has 15) until they are ready to be shipped to customers. This means that, unlike a regular grocery store apple - which was picked, then packed, then stored, then trucked, then stored some more, then put out on display - our apples were removed from a specially controlled atmosphere on Monday, then packed for you by us on Tuesday. Please do put them into your refrigerator when you get them; you can expect them to taste right-off-the-tree for two weeks at least.
Bill and Andrea at Champlain Orchards are committed to ecological practices and are Eco-Apple certified. Due to the challenges of our Northeast climate, organic certification of apples is incredibly difficult. Their apples are never sprayed; only in the flowering stage are the trees treated using Integrated Pest Management to cut down on the risk of scab. No chemical pesticides are used on the orchards.
