Getting Involved in the Food System
September 23, 2022
Your weekly order with Farmers To You connects you directly to our network of partner farmers and producers all across New England. But if you’re craving even more involvement in our regional food system, look no further. Here are three ways to get started:
- Go apple picking. Grab your friends or family and head to the nearest apple orchard, where you can support a local farm and harvest to your heart’s content. Bring on the jams, pies, and applesauce!
- Glean. The fall harvest is upon us, and farmers are busy combing their fields and preparing for the winter season. Now is a great time to volunteer to glean, or collect the unharvested produce in a farmer’s field. Here are opportunities for Bostonians; Vermonters can click here.
- Dig Deeper. Between the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act and the upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization, there’s lots of food policy work to be done at all levels of government. Read this brief by Karen Nordstrom, Policy Network Manager at Food Solutions New England, on what’s next for food system policy in our region.
