Jack and Ann at Butterworks make a wonderful cultured Buttermilk from the same milk used to make their exceptional yogurt products, and is now from cows that are 100% grass fed as well as Organic.
This product is cultured with a lactic acid starter, and is made from jersey milk that has been flashed pasteurized and skimmed of cream.
Jack and Ann are masters in the art of dairying. They use holistic practices to create a sustainable farm that produces some of the best dairy and grain products in New England. Butterworks was one of the first Organic Dairies in the region, and they have tended to their soil and animals in a way that assures many decades of bounty, flavor and beauty for our great grandchildren.
Buttermilk can be used in many recipes in place of milk when a little more tang might enhance the flavor a dish. Try soaking grains, like oats, before baking or cooking - for a final product with increased nutrition. Use Buttermilk instead of water in your favorite pie or quiche crust recipe or use in pancakes or waffles and enjoy with Square Deal Farm Maple Syrup. Make your own light and flavorful blue cheese dressing by mixing crumbled blue cheese, buttermilk, black pepper and a pinch of crushed garlic.
Store in the refrigerator.
