Whiskey Glazed Sweet Potatoes

My mom made one of the best dishes on our Thanksgiving table this year.  I’ve never had sweet potatoes combined with apples and they’re a fantastic match.  The glaze is neither too boozy nor too sweet – just right. This would work well on any holiday table.  I more than halved the recipe and put this on my weeknight table to go with a roast chicken.  I baked the potatoes the night before so they were cool and ready to slice the next day. Enjoy this festive time with good food and good cheer!

This recipe makes a festive breakfast or brunch dish.

For the sausage, I used Salumi’s Benito, which is Pete Colman’s take on chorizo.  When I make the dish again I’ll do the same.  I was really happy with the mix of sweet from the potato and kick of spice from the chorizo.

Soba Noodles in Broth with Sweet Potato, Cabbage and Spinach

IMG_7979

Amid the decadence of December, I shoot for simplicity.  Although this is not food related, I can’t help but share with you this Victorian ditty I stumbled across a couple of years ago.  Gift giving is simplified by offering “something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read.” My family adopted this tradition several years ago and it has truly curbed my impulse for overindulgence.

I make this simple Japanese soup constantly in the winter, or during other cold weather seasons.
