Dear Families,

This is a request for help in telling our story – the story of what this Farmers To You community is really about and the change we wish to see in the world.

Next Wednesday, 1/18, @ 6:30pm, I am giving a talk at the Wellesley Hill Branch Library, at 210 Washington Street, and I will be telling our story. Come join us, but I am also asking you to connect us to other story tellers.

Here is the summary of the picture I wish to paint. My goal is to create clarity on what we can all do to make a difference.

We are facing a daunting health crisis both in our families and the Earth.  They are intimately connected.  Our unquestioning fixation on cheap and convenient food has altered how food is grown and processed to a point where very few of us know where our food comes from or what it contains.  Healthy food that is grown in a way that does not further degrade the Earth is very hard to find. Complicating things further, what is sold in the marketplace as Organic, Natural, or healthy often does not live up to the standards we expect or want for our families and the environment.

Global climate change, obesity, chronic disease and disorders – these are all major problems for our society, but they can be healed over time. Change requires that we look at our assumptions and habits and ask what we really want and what we are willing to do (or not do) to get it. Our food choices and purchases have a profound impact on the environment, family health, social justice, community vibrancy, and animal welfare. Food that is grown in partnership and harmony with nature not only heals the land, animals and people who produce it, it also provides the kind of deep nutrition that will heal our bodies. Changing our relationship with our food, and by connection, our health and the Earth’s health will change the world.

My request is that those of you who have media contacts of any sort or the ear of your community help me tell this story – and take a lot of the mystery and confusion away that keeps us paralyzed and ineffective. The more times we can tell it, the more empowering it is, and the more we can be the change we want in the world.

Blessings,

Greg
