Vegetables:
Yellow String Beans from Foote Brook Farm are back. Try this recipe for Yellow String Beans with Mushrooms and Pine Nuts from Food 52. We often simplify it by skipping the blanching of the beans and leaving out the mushrooms. Tasty either way!

Squash season is upon us and this week we are adding Sweet Dumpling Squash from Pete’s Greens.  Wonderful sliced in half and baked, then topped with butter and maple syrup. It can also be steamed or grilled. The seeds are excellent washed and roasted, with a bit of sea salt.

The cool weather brings the last of the Peppers and French Breakfast Radishes.

A new vegetable for us this week is Water Cress from Pete’s Greens. Great in all sorts of recipes, keep Water Cress in the fridge in a plastic bag or stem down in a bowl of water on the counter for maximum freshness.

Fruit:
We have more wonderful varieties of heirloom apples this week from Scott Farm.
Our Weekly Mix combines Golden Russet and Orleans Reinette. In the Cooking Mix we have Bramley’s Seedling and Belle de Boskoop

Time to cook a pie or a tart. Check out our Apple Recipes or head straight for the Apple Palooza!
